About Stanley D. (Stan) Young

Stan married his high school sweetheart at the tender age of 19, and remains happily married to "sweet Mary" today. Keeping his dreams alive, Stan attended college for two years in Evansville, IN studying engineering.

In the mid 60's, Stan moved from Princeton, IN to Indianapolis and then to Noblesville, IN where he incorporated his home building business in the 70's. At that time, Stan obtained a contractors license, signed by the current Mayor, Senator Richard Lugar.

Since then, Stan has continued to build homes in Indianapolis, Carmel, Zionsville and Noblesville. One of his favorite projects was developing a 40-acre custom home sub-division called Cherry Tree Farms in Noblesville, IN. Other projects include a small town home project in Gurnee and custom homes in Wilmette, Winnetka, and Evanston.

Just next door in Illinois, Stan was contracted to do work in Lake Bluff, as well as major renovations along Chicago's prestigous North Shore. One renovation in particular was a historic home that Mr. Sears, of Sears and Roebuck, built for his grand daughter in Kenilworth.

Stan's hobbies include flying and boating. Though he does not fly much today, he continues to hold his private pilot's license.

His love for boating took over, and in 1998 Stan and Mary completed and launched a 47-ft. Schooner sailboat, built by hand with plans from the John Alden Company in Boston. The boat included all wood construction, with White Oak for the keel and frames cut from their hometown in Illinois. "Mahogany imported from Honduras was our choice of wood for the planking in this enormous project."

Stan and Mary enjoyed the boat on Lake Michigan for 7 years but eventually sold it to a couple from London, England. The couple are currently sailing it around the world, having gone as far as Venezuela, with plans to transit the Panama canal and head out across the Pacific next year.

After the sale of their boat, Stan and Mary moved to Shoals, IN where they are enjoying their golden years while working to make Sawmill Ridge a beautiful place to live. "We feel like Sawmill Ridge will be one of the best custom home subdivisions we have created to date."
